A Gulf Stream orphan (GSO) is a subtropical or tropical fish that gets swept north beyond its native range by the Gulf Stream. Unfortunately, as winter approaches, these fish cannot tolerate the drop in water temperature and will not survive.
Every year, Aquarium divers head into New England waters to rescue many of these Gulf Stream orphans to reside at the Aquarium. These fish will quarantine at our Quincy Animal Care Center and eventually move into one of our galleries or the Giant Ocean Tank. So, meet some of our newest tropical fish:
