Amali the Little Bonobo Celebrates Her First Birthday

Amali the bonobo is an adorable little chomper with all of her baby teeth and she loves to eat everything she can get her hands on! On July 23, 2020, Amali celebrated her first birthday at the Cincinnati Zoo alongside her mother, Kesi, and grandmother, Lana.

The zoo staff made sure that Amali had a special day full of treats and fun activities. She enjoyed eating snacks such as apples, bananas, and sweet potatoes. She also played with enrichment items like balls and ropes. The zoo staff even decorated her enclosure with streamers and balloons for the occasion!

Amali is part of a family group of bonobos that includes her mother Kesi, grandmother Lana, aunt Kibibi, uncle Kianga, and two younger siblings named Ndjole and Mwala. This family group lives together in their own habitat at the Cincinnati Zoo where they can interact with each other in a natural setting.

The Cincinnati Zoo is dedicated to providing excellent care for their animals. They are committed to creating enriching environments for all species in their care so that they can thrive in captivity. Amali’s first birthday was just one example of how they strive to give their animals the best possible life.

We hope that Amali has many more happy birthdays to come! We wish her a lifetime of health and happiness surrounded by those who love her most – her family at the Cincinnati Zoo.
