Construction Underway for Flamingo’s Home
Denver Zoo is excited to announce that the construction of Flamingo’s brand-new habitat is underway, and the new home is all set to open this year. The new habitat will provide spacious outdoor spaces, lush vegetation, and water features, allowing the flamboyant flamingos to thrive.
Temporary Outdoor Habitat
In the meantime, the flamingos spend their summer in a temporary outdoor habitat previously home to our bald eagles and Andean condors. A rescued bald eagle, Toana, moved to a new habitat next to Stingray Cove™. The condor pair, Andy and Evita, and another rescued bald eagle, Valor, reside behind the scenes.
Physical Exam and Vaccines
Before the temporary move, the bird care specialists and animal health teams gave physical exams and administered vaccines to the flamingos for the West Nile Virus. The exams were comprehensive; our team checked their feet, confirmed their updated weight, and confirmed their overall body condition to ensure they were healthy.
Outdoor Enjoyment
After their exams, the flamingos were carried to their new habitat, and our bird care team reports that they are enjoying their outdoor space. It is heartening to see how the Zoo carries out these duties excellently while ensuring that the flamingos are healthy, happy, and enjoying their new environment.
