Clementine can be distinguished from Fiddle by her blue ear tag, which was attached as a quick, minimally-invasive process to help identify her in the herd. Introducing Clementine, the newest addition to the Eastern bongo herd!

As spring blossoms, so does the baby bongo boom. The newest member of the herd was born on February 16th, to parents Howard and Columbine. Meet Clementine, a cute little bouncing baby girl that keeps close to her mother. Her keepers share that she is a momma’s girl, sticking close to Columbine, but also enjoys spending time with her half-sister, Fiddle.

Fiddle, who was introduced to the world last month, is the perfect big sister, helping Clementine grow more confident by the day and introducing her to the magic of “zoomies”. “Zoomies”? You know, those moments where babies and pets run around wildly, pretending that they are the fastest creatures on earth.

How can you differentiate between Fiddle and Clementine?

Well, it’s pretty simple, just take a look at their ear tags. Fiddle’s ear tag is yellow, while Clementine’s is blue.

You may wonder why bongos have ear tags. It’s just a quick, minimally-invasive process. It’s similar to an ear piercing for humans or microchipping a pet. It enables us to identify similar-looking animals who live in herds quickly and accurately for their lifetime.

Spring is here which means it’s time for our unofficial baby bongo boom! We introduced Fiddle to the world last month, and now, we’re thrilled to introduce the newest addition to our Critically Endangered Eastern bongo herd, Clementine. Clementine was born February 16 to parents Howard and Columbine and keepers share that she’s a momma’s girl who likes to stick close to Columbine. In addition to hanging with her mom, Clementine also enjoys spending time with her half-sister, Fiddle, who is helping her become more confident by the day and introducing her to the magic of zoomies. You can tell Fiddle and Clementine apart by looking at their ear tags; Fiddle has a yellow ear tag and Clementine’s is blue. We often get asked about our bongos’ ear tags. This quick, minimally-invasive process is similar to an ear piercing for humans or microchipping a pet and enables us a lifetime of being able to quickly and accurately identify similar-looking animals who live in herds.
