Other notable births include giraffe and elephant calves, vital for their Species Survival Plans.
2. The Angel Charity for Children World of Play, a nature playground, opened in late October and has been a hit with children. It allows them to see the world from an animal’s perspective.
3. A new parking lot was inaugurated with a tailgate party in December and is now operational. Starting January 15, access to the Edith Ball Adaptive Recreation Center (ARC) facilities will be exclusively through this new lot at Hi Corbett Field’s southeast corner. This parking lot features 433 spaces and environmentally-friendly elements, such as 100 new trees and bioswales for stormwater management.
4. The lot’s opening is part of preparations for the Zoo’s Pathway to Asia expansion, which is expected to begin in February 2024. The old Zoo and ARC parking lots will be repurposed during construction, requiring temporary and permanent closures.
5. The Zoo management thanks patrons for their patience amid the construction and assures efforts to minimize disruption.
