Fritz the Hippo at Cincinnati Zoo

Fritz, the beloved hippopotamus at Cincinnati Zoo, has been a resident since 1971 and is the oldest living, captive-born hippo in North America. He’s a huge fan favorite among the zoo’s visitors! But did you know there are some pretty interesting facts about him?

Fritz was actually born in Africa and came to the U.S. as part of an African wildlife exhibit. He quickly became one of the zoo’s most popular animals, partly because of his outgoing personality. In fact, he loves interacting with people so much that he even takes trips around town with some of his honorary zookeepers!

In addition to being friendly, Fritz is also very knowledgeable about his current environment. According to zookeepers, he can tell when it’s raining even before it starts coming down because of how high or low the water level is in his pool.

Fritz is definitely one of the stars of Cincinnati Zoo and will always be remembered for his charm and intelligence. He continues to delight visitors from all around who come to see him every day!
