The Chattanooga Zoo stands as a beacon of wildlife conservation and education in Tennessee. Established with the mission to engage the community in the protection and understanding of animals, the zoo is home to a diverse array of species. Its commitment to conservation is evident through its numerous initiatives aimed at preserving endangered species and promoting biodiversity.

Conservation Efforts and Initiatives

The Chattanooga Zoo undertakes a wide range of conservation efforts, both locally and globally. The zoo actively participates in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) Species Survival Plan, which coordinates breeding programs and the protection of endangered species. By collaborating with other institutions, the zoo contributes to essential research and habitat preservation initiatives.

Moreover, the Chattanooga Zoo focuses on educational programs aimed at increasing public awareness about wildlife conservation. With special camps and workshops, visitors of all ages are encouraged to learn about the importance of maintaining ecological balance and supporting conservation projects.

Giveback Night Event

To support the zoo’s efforts, the community is coming together for a special Giveback Night event. Scheduled for June 12th, this event at Central will provide an opportunity for attendees to meet some of the zoo’s residents, including Chip the Box Turtle and Merlin the Bearded Dragon. These interactions serve to highlight the zoo’s educational mission and foster a deeper connection between visitors and wildlife.

During this event, 10% of all sales will be directed back to the Chattanooga Zoo. This fundraising initiative is vital for the zoo’s continued efforts in animal care, educational outreach, and conservation projects. The event serves as a reminder of the community’s commitment to preserving and appreciating the natural world.

Specialty Beer Release

In a creative collaboration with Oddstory Brewing Co., a specialty beer will be released to further support the zoo. The release features artwork showcasing Boysenberry the Sloth, one of the zoo’s newest and most adored additions. This unique collaboration not only highlights the charm of the Chattanooga Zoo’s inhabitants but also raises funds to bolster their conservation efforts.

A portion of the proceeds from every can sold will be allocated to the zoo, providing a fun and enjoyable way for the community to engage with wildlife conservation. The initiative underscores the importance of local partnerships in enhancing wildlife protection and fostering community involvement.

Featured Animals

Visitors to the zoo have the unique opportunity to connect with a variety of animals, each playing a role in the zoo’s educational and conservation mission. Chip the Box Turtle and Merlin the Bearded Dragon are ambassadors for their species, helping to educate the public about reptiles and their habitats. These encounters are integral to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of biodiversity.

Boysenberry the Sloth, a recent addition, captivates both children and adults alike. Sloths play a critical role in their ecosystems, and Boysenberry serves as a symbol of the zoo’s dedication to providing a sanctuary for vulnerable species. Engaging with visitors, Boysenberry helps emphasize the importance of conservation and the protection of habitats.
