The Afrotropical, or Ethiopian, realm spans the African continent south of the Sahara and several islands off the coast of Africa, such as Madagascar. It is home to many ecosystems, including savannas, rainforests, deserts, and mountains. Its fauna is incredibly diverse, with notable species including elephants, lions, zebras, gorillas, and countless bird species. This realm is also home to many endemic species, particularly on the islands of Madagascar and São Tomé and Príncipe.
