Biogeographical Realms: Australasian

The Australasian realm includes Australia, New Guinea, New Zealand, and several nearby island groups. This realm is known for its high rates of endemism, meaning many species are found nowhere else in the world. Notable species include the kangaroo, koala, echidna, platypus, and various bird species, including the kiwi and kookaburra. The Great Barrier Reef, the world’s most extensive coral reef system, also falls within this realm.
