Zoo Atlanta Volunteers are honored during National Volunteer Week, observed in the US from April 16 through April 23, 2023. These volunteers dedicate their time and expertise to educational interpretation, special events, guest experiences, administrative support, facilities and operations, animal care support, and more. Three longtime docents at Zoo Atlanta, Jane Barron, Rae Furcha, and Polly Heyward, will also receive the national President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2023 for contributing over 4,000 hours. Zoo Atlanta encourages individuals over 18 passionate about wildlife and conservation to pursue volunteering opportunities, including the Education Program, Event Program, and Zoo Crew Program. Volunteers aged 14 to 17 can apply for the Volunteer Program, while internships and a Veterinary Preceptorship Program are available for those interested in pursuing careers in the zoological sciences.
