Chiropractic Care for Sea Turtle Patients

Summary of Offering Chiropractic Care to Our Sea Turtle Patients:
Spicy Hawaiian, a juvenile green sea turtle, has received chiropractic care at the Healing Center. The turtle initially came in with symptoms of lethargy, stiffness, and loss of appetite. Bloodwork showed overexertion, and after receiving fluids, medication, and rest, the turtle recovered and was released. However, the turtle was found again with similar symptoms and is now being examined for possible toxin exposure. The turtle’s muscles have been affected, with some atrophying and muscle necrosis being revealed in a surgical biopsy. Chiropractic care is being added to the treatment, with Dr. Ashley Mincey using an activator tool to stimulate movement in the turtle’s neck, shoulders, and flippers. The goal is to help Spicy Hawaiians regain more movement.

Did you know that even sea turtles can benefit from chiropractic care? It’s true! At our Healing Center, we have been offering this unique treatment to one of our patients, Spicy Hawaiian, a juvenile green sea turtle. Spicy’s journey to wellness has been fascinating, and we are excited to share it with you.

When Spicy arrived at our Healing Center, they presented with lethargy, stiffness, and inappetence symptoms. Our dedicated veterinary professionals quickly discovered that Spicy had been dealing with overexertion, which explained their condition. It took time, fluids, medication, and rest for Spicy to recover and eventually be released in March.

However, fate had other plans for Spicy, as they were found again in April with similar symptoms. This time, our veterinary team suspected a possible toxin exposure and initiated further investigations, including a pending toxicology report. During this period, we noticed the toll Spicy’s rigidity, especially around their neck, had taken on their muscles. Some of their muscles had started to atrophy, which was a cause for concern.

To address this issue, we explored an unconventional approach – chiropractic care. Enter Dr. Ashley Mincey from Wild Life Chiropractic. Once a week, Dr. Mincey assesses Spicy’s neck, shoulders, and front flippers, targeting the areas most affected by rigidity. This assessment allows her to understand how much a joint moves and in which direction it avoids movement.

Using a chiropractic tool called an activator, Dr. Mincey delivers carefully calculated impulses to these areas, aiming to restore mobility and balance. This gentle method stimulates the brain, providing the necessary information to understand that a previously problematic area can be utilized effectively. It’s a process of retraining and reprogramming the brain to stop overcompensating and restore balance to the body.

Chiropractic care, whether aimed at humans or sea turtles like Spicy Hawaiian, revolves around balancing the nervous system. By using lighter touch tools like the activator, Dr. Mincey ensures that the brain receives the appropriate stimulation, ultimately leading to a more harmonious state within the body.

We hope this innovative chiropractic treatment will help Spicy Hawaiians regain more movement and alleviate their discomfort. Progress is being closely monitored, and we will keep you updated on their journey to recovery.
