Continental climates, or microthermal climates, are characterized by significant temperature variations between summer and winter. These climates often have cold winters with snowfall and warm to hot summers. This climate type includes humid continental (Dfa, Dfb, Dwa, Dwb) and subarctic (Dfc, Dfd, Dwc, Dwd) climates. These climates are generally found in the interiors of continents, away from the moderating influence of oceans. Examples include much of the United States Midwest, central and eastern Europe, and parts of Russia and Canada.
