We are thrilled to announce that our beloved herd at The Sanctuary is growing again as we warmly welcome Nicole, a 47-year-old female Asian elephant. Nicole hails from San Antonio Zoo’s esteemed geriatric herd, known as “The Golden Girls.” After the unfortunate passing of her two companions, @sanantoniozoo took the noble decision of transferring Nicole to The Sanctuary, where she will receive continued social interaction and the joy of being part of a herd.

In the upcoming week of March 6, Nicole will embark on an 800-mile journey from San Antonio, Texas, to Hohenwald, Tennessee. Accompanying her will be a dedicated and experienced transport team, along with the skilled veterinarian and support staff from San Antonio Zoo. This journey will ensure that Nicole’s well-being and safety are prioritized throughout the trip.

The Sanctuary has been excited as preparations are made to welcome Nicole to her new home. Our dedicated team has worked diligently to modify facilities and cross-train staff members to provide the utmost comfort and support for Nicole’s smooth transition. We understand the importance of giving her the space and opportunity to explore her surroundings at her own pace, ensuring that she feels secure and content in her new environment.

At The Sanctuary, our commitment to the well-being of our elephants is unwavering. Janice Zeitlin, our CEO, expresses her honor in caring for Nicole as she progresses through her golden years. It has been an exciting year for our Sanctuary, and we are immensely grateful for the opportunity to extend our love and care to this beautiful elephant.

Nicole’s arrival exemplifies the dedication and passion we have for our residents. We pride ourselves on creating a sanctuary that not only meets the physical needs of our elephants but also fosters their emotional well-being. Each elephant has a unique story and personality, and we are honored to be part of their journey.

As we eagerly await Nicole’s arrival, we cannot help but reflect on the incredible journey each member of our herd has taken to reach us. The challenges they have faced and the resilience they have shown inspire us every day. We are dedicated to providing them with a haven where they can rediscover their instincts, enjoy the company of their fellow elephants, and find peace and contentment.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Nicole’s arrival and follow her journey as she embarks on a new chapter with us. Together, we can continue to make a positive difference in the lives of these majestic creatures and raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation.
