We have an exciting update about mother-daughter chimpanzees Amelia and Maria! They have recently fully integrated into their new troop at the @DallasZoo, marking an exciting chapter in their lives. The troop now has a total of 9 chimpanzees. (That’s Maria looking at her photographer in the first image!) The Dallas Zoo is a 106-acre Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) accredited institution with over two decades of dedicated chimpanzee care.
Their new habitat in Dallas is eight times the size of their previous home at the Sac Zoo. The habitat features a waterfall, stream, and an array of climbing structures. It also includes a variety of trees, more than 40 edible plants for foraging fun, and rocks heated in the winter and cooled in the summer, keeping the troop comfortable year-round.
