Penguins at the Aquarium of the Pacific

Visiting the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California is an amazing experience. One of the highlights is the June Keyes Penguin Habitat, which houses twenty Magellanic Penguins. This exhibit includes a crawl-in space, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with these incredible creatures.

The June Keyes Penguin Habitat is home to more than 200,000 breeding pairs of Magellanic Penguins. Three of the original rescued birds are still in this exhibit and as of August 2020, they have been listed as a species of least concern. The habitat also has models of Emperor Penguins that illustrate the wide size range among penguins around the world.

The Aquarium offers special Penguin Encounters for visitors who want an even more immersive experience with these animals. These encounters are $150 per person or $135 per Aquarium member and include admission to the Aquarium.

In May 2022, a baby Magellanic penguin chick hatched at the Aquarium! It was placed in a nest with its parents in one of the exhibits and visitors were able to watch it grow up over time.

Visiting penguins at the Aquarium of the Pacific is an unforgettable experience for all ages!
