Joona the Rhino: Denver Zoo’s Joy and Treasure

Joona, a greater one-horned rhino calf, is the Denver Zoo’s joy and treasure. Born on February 22nd, 2021, Joona has been an extraordinary gift to the zoo and its community. Her name, which means “gift” or “treasure” in Nepalese, is fitting for this precious creature.

At only two years old, Joona has already made quite an impression at the Denver Zoo. She loves nothing more than taking a hose bath followed by a good mud wallow. Afterward she can be seen playing with her mom Tensing or exploring her habitat with curiosity and enthusiasm.

The Denver Zoo celebrated Joona’s first birthday on Monday, February 22nd 2021. Despite Tensing not being too excited at first, it was a special day for everyone involved! There were plenty of treats for both Joona and her mother to enjoy as well as lots of pictures taken of this special occasion.

Joona is the first greater one-horned rhino to ever be born at Denver Zoo and she has certainly been a source of joy for all who have had the pleasure of meeting her. From her playful personality to her adorable antics, it’s easy to see why she is such a beloved member of the zoo family!

If you’re ever in Denver make sure to stop by the zoo and say hello to Joona – you won’t regret it! She will surely bring a smile to your face with her cuteness and charm.
