Liam Resnik ’27 is our first Zooie of the Week of the Winter! Originally from New York City, but now calling Rhinebeck, NY, home, Liam attended Rhinebeck High School before coming to Millbrook.
“I wanted to go to boarding school to be challenged more, and I wanted more opportunities to develop myself and figure out what I want to do with my life. Millbrook seemed like it had a nice balance, the people were nice, and the campus is beautiful.
I did Zoo Squad in the fall as a sport. I’ve been working in restaurants since I was little. And a lot of kids here don’t have that experience and don’t know what it’s like. But coming here and doing Zoo Squad is like the closest thing to having a real job. You’ve got to do stuff you don’t want to do, you have a boss, you got to listen to directions, you’ve got to clean up. And for me, the most valuable skills and lessons I’ve learned are from working.
The zoo is a gateway for students that want to do veterinary medicine. And people that aren’t necessarily interested in that may find an interest working at the zoo, so it’s important for the students. It gives them a sense of responsibility. But there are so many opportunities here at Millbrook, you can go in any direction and focus on that for your entire high school experience.
Millbrook is a nice community in a beautiful area. But another reason why Millbrook stood out to me is the faculty’s involvement with the students. There’s a ton of support here. If I’m having trouble, I need someone to be there to help me. And Millbrook has a 4-to-1 student-teacher ratio.”
