National Aquarium

The National Aquarium, located in Baltimore, Maryland, is one of the largest and most influential aquariums in the United States. Established in 1981, the National Aquarium is a leader in conservation, animal rescue, and public education. It hosts a wide array of exhibits that replicate natural habitats, providing a home to over 20,000 animals from more than 800 species of fish, birds, amphibians, reptiles, marine mammals, and sharks.

Visitors to the National Aquarium can explore various ecosystems ranging from a tropical rainforest to an Atlantic coral reef. Highlights include the Blacktip Reef, a dynamic Indo-Pacific reef ecosystem; the Upland Tropical Rain Forest, home to a diverse collection of birds and mammals; and Australia: Wild Extremes, featuring unique species from Down Under. The aquarium offers immersive experiences like animal encounters, behind-the-scenes tours, and the 4-D Immersion Theater.

The National Aquarium is deeply committed to conservation, research, and animal rescue. Its Animal Rescue program rescues, rehabilitates, and releases marine animals found ill or injured along the East Coast. The aquarium is also involved in various conservation initiatives, such as Project Coral, focused on coral reproduction research, and the Marine Animal Protection Program, aimed at reducing harm to marine life from human activities.
