Overview

The Shedd Aquarium is an indoor public aquarium in Chicago, Illinois. Opened in 1930, it was the first inland aquarium with a permanent saltwater fish collection. Spread over 10 acres, Shedd Aquarium houses over 30,000 creatures representing over 1,500 species from various aquatic habitats worldwide. It's one of the largest indoor aquariums in the U.S. and a leader in conservation, education, and marine research.

Shedd Aquarium offers visitors an immersive experience of the world's aquatic biodiversity. It features a variety of exhibits such as "Waters of the World," which takes guests on a journey through 80 different habitats, the Caribbean Reef, a 360-degree tour of a coral environment, and the "Amazon Rising" exhibit that recreates the Amazon's wet and dry seasons. The popular "Aquatic Show" features dolphins and other marine mammals in a fun and educational presentation.

Shedd Aquarium is dedicated to several conservation efforts to protect aquatic life. It participates in breeding and recovery programs for endangered species and researches aquatic animals and ecosystems. The aquarium's conservation team works globally, from the Great Lakes to the Bahamas, on projects to preserve biodiversity, rehabilitate wildlife, and promote sustainable practices.
