Overview

Pinola is a private aviary located near Shreveport, Louisiana, and houses nearly three hundred species of birds from various families across the globe. This includes birds that range from the critically endangered to the more common varieties. The aviary's primary objectives include producing birds for zoos and other private aviaries and functioning as part of The Pinola Conservancy. The conservancy's website serves as an educational resource, offering thousands of photographs, live webcams, educational tools for bird enthusiasts, and an engaging online visit.

The facility is designed with the welfare of the birds in mind, featuring enclosed free-flight community aviaries, open ponds, and lawns. It also boasts specialized facilities to meet certain species' specific needs. The lush natural environment, including vegetation, flowing water, ponds, a varied diet, nesting structures, and careful species compositions, ensures the birds' good quality of life.

Focusing mainly on waterfowl, the aviary encourages each bird to reproduce, and the surplus is distributed to other qualified private, public, and institutional aviaries and zoological parks. There is meticulous care in incubation and rearing, with specialized facilities producing around 1000 young birds annually. The aviary's central purpose is the captive preservation and propagation of birds rather than public display; therefore, the facility remains closed to the general public.
