Meet Nutsy, the captivating caracara recognized for their impressive looks…

The Crested Caracara is a beautiful and unique bird of prey in the Americas. It is part of the Falconidae and the subfamily Polyborinae and is one of only two species in its genus. This raptor has long legs and a wide wingspan, with a shaggy crest atop its flat head.

Crested Caracaras are found from the southern United States to South America, typically in open fields, deserts, or beaches. They are scavengers that feed on carrion and small animals like lizards and rodents. They also steal food from other birds or even raid nests for eggs.

These birds have an aggressive nature which can be seen when they hunt or defend their territory. They may also attack humans if they feel threatened, so keeping your distance is important if you spot one in the wild!

If you want an up-close experience with these amazing creatures, several restaurants worldwide feature them on their menus. CaraCara Mexican Grill in Farmingdale, New York; Caracara Restaurant and Bar in Dunedin, Florida; and Caracara Cocina Cerveza & Mezcal in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Mexico, all offer dishes featuring this unique bird of prey.

The Crested Caracara is an incredible species that deserves our admiration and respect. If you ever get to observe one in its natural habitat or try some of its delicious meat at one of these restaurants, don’t miss out!
