The Order Proboscidea is a group of mammals characterized by long, muscular trunks or proboscises. The most well-known member of this group is the elephant, but many other species of proboscideans lived in the past. These animals were adapted to various environments, from the forests of Europe to the grasslands of Africa. They had diverse teeth, from tusks used for defense and feeding to flat molars used for grinding plant matter. Unfortunately, most species of proboscideans went extinct due to climate change and human hunting. However, the study of these fascinating creatures continues to provide valuable insights into the evolution and diversity of mammals.
