Plastic Pollution Reduction Act (PPRA)
In 2021, Colorado passed the Plastic Pollution Reduction Act (PPRA) and it took affect Jan. 1, 2023. This law prohibits stores and restaurants from providing single-use plastic bags and styrofoam containers. On Jan. 1, 2024, no plastic bags will be available and to-go containers will no longer be available in styrofoam. Here are a few tips for adapting to this change.
Tips for Adapting to the Change
- “I can’t seem to remember my bags when I go to the store!” Try unloading groceries and immediately take the bags back to your car. If you are able to acquire an easily foldable/stowable bag that fits inside a handbag or pocket, this helps when you picked up a few more things than you expected.
- “What will I use when I take my dog for a walk?” Try using a bread bag or other plastic packaging.
- “What will I line my garbage cans with?” Look for plastic packaging that can be repurposed as a trash bag.

Plastic Pollution Reduction Act (PPRA)
Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste are released into our oceans, rivers, and landfills, threatening the health of both humans and wildlife. To address this issue, many countries have adopted the Plastic Pollution Reduction Act (PPRA), a set of laws designed to reduce the amount of plastic waste entering our environment.
What is the Plastic Pollution Reduction Act?
The PPRA is a set of laws and regulations designed to reduce the amount of plastic waste entering our environment. It focuses on reducing the production and consumption of single-use plastics, as well as encouraging the use of more sustainable materials. The PPRA also seeks to increase public awareness of the issue of plastic pollution and to encourage businesses to adopt more sustainable practices.
What Does the PPRA Require?
The PPRA requires companies to reduce the amount of plastic they use in their products and packaging. It also requires companies to provide more sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging, such as biodegradable materials or reusable containers. The PPRA also requires companies to label their products with information about their environmental impact, such as the amount of plastic used and the source of the plastic.
What Are the Benefits of the PPRA?
The PPRA has a number of benefits. By reducing the amount of plastic used in products and packaging, it helps to reduce the amount of plastic waste entering our environment. It also encourages businesses to adopt more sustainable practices, which can help to reduce their environmental impact. Finally, the PPRA helps to increase public awareness of the issue of plastic pollution, which can lead to more people taking action to reduce their own plastic consumption.
Conclusion
The Plastic Pollution Reduction Act is a set of laws designed to reduce the amount of plastic waste entering our environment. It requires companies to reduce their plastic use, provide more sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging, and label their products with information about their environmental impact. The PPRA has a number of benefits, including reducing the amount of plastic waste entering our environment, encouraging businesses to adopt more sustainable practices, and increasing public awareness of the issue of plastic pollution.
