Last Friday night, in the pouring rain, we embarked on a rescue mission to save a wetland deer in the Paraná Delta area. We found it lying in the grass, unable to stand up. Its dire condition necessitated immediate transportation to the Temaiken Species Recovery Center.
The subsequent examinations revealed several afflictions at the pulmonary and neurological levels. Radiographs unveiled the presence of bullets lodged in its jaw, potentially indicating a long-standing conflict with humans. Sadly, despite the valiant efforts of the veterinary team and the Wetland Deer Scientific and Technical Committee members, the deer could not be saved.

SOS ciervo ⚠️
El viernes pasado, por la noche y bajo la lluvia, acudimos al rescate de un ciervo de los pantanos en la zona del Delta del Paraná. Lo encontramos tirado en el pasto, no podía levantarse.
Fue trasladado al Centro de Recuperación de Especies de Temaiken, ya que se encontraba muy deteriorado.
Los estudios que hicimos mostraron que tenía distintas afecciones a nivel pulmonar y neurológico. Mediante radiografías pudimos ver que tenía balas alojadas en la mandíbula, probablemente desde hace tiempo.
Su estado era tan delicado que, a pesar del gran esfuerzo del equipo veterinario y de otros miembros del Comité Científico Técnico Ciervo de los Pantanos, no pudo sobrevivir.
Es el segundo caso en el mes en que un ciervo de los pantanos, especie en Peligro de Extinción en el Delta, muere por causas de conflicto con humanos.
Estas historias nos llenan de tristeza pero sabemos que compartirlas es fundamental para revertir esta problemática.
