The Channeled Vitrinella, Vitrinella canaliculata, is a small marine gastropod of the family Vitrinellidae that may reach 1.8 mm (0.07 inch!) in diameter. Its transparent shell allows us to see some of the snail’s organs. Notice the digestive gland and gonad within early shell whorls, the right eye, one of the extensible head tentacles, and the snout (beak) in the background. The operculum is barely visible on the lower left, behind the shell. The species was named in 2011 from Cienfuegos in Cuba by Rubio, Fernández-Garcés, and Rolán, but has since been found along the east coast of Florida.
