Do you remember when they had a beautiful creature, Pe, guy? She was purchased, with community donations, for $3400 in 1956. Head caretaker, Bruer Hage, was quoted to say, “She doesn’t look friendly, but she has a heart of gold.”
She was housed along with Bessie (the Indian elephant) in the elephant house modified over the years to house polar bears, seals and more, and now our brown bears and river otters.
She looks pretty friendly in this photo!
