The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is excited to announce the arrival of Tucker, a new male hippo. Tucker arrived in 2021 from San Francisco and is now living with Bibi, mother of world-famous hippo Fiona.
Tucker is huge, dark, and handsome and has been welcomed by the zoo as a potential mate for Bibi. In November 2022, it was reported that Fiona and Tucker had begun mating. This was not unexpected as Tucker had been brought to the zoo specifically for this purpose.
The Cincinnati Zoo has assured visitors that Fiona can maneuver away from Tucker if she needs to. They also noted that it is totally normal for hippos to breed within their family group.
Fiona’s father Henry still lives at the zoo and welcomed a baby hippo named Fritz in August 2021 after breeding with another female hippo named Chewie. The Cincinnati Zoo continues to be an exciting place for animal lovers of all ages!
