On March 2, the museum held its first-ever STEM Career Day, which shone the spotlight on the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Visitors strolled through verdant walkways and past tanks filled with aquatic life reflecting a kaleidoscope of colors, where each exhibit represented a chapter in nature’s grand textbook, telling tales of ecological interdependence and evolutionary marvels.
The STEM Career Day event celebrated the career narratives of those who dedicate their lives to deciphering, preserving, and showcasing the intricacies of our natural world. The Virginia Living Museum is excited to host our first STEM Career Day on March 2 from 11:00 to 3:00! We will welcome guests to learn about our careers in plant and animal care, planetary science, community science, and museum exhibit design. We have invited community STEM professionals as well to share their careers.
During the event, professionals will highlight their day-to-day job responsibilities, the tools and background knowledge necessary to complete the tasks, and the pathway that brought them to this position.
Guests can talk with professionals at display tables throughout the museum, ask staff and volunteers questions about their roles during animal feedings, and enjoy hands-on activities to learn more about STEM careers.
The Virginia General Assembly has funded this program through VPCC and COVA STEM Hub.
