Welcome to our pygmy rattlesnake, Sistrurus miliarius! Born in human care at the @naturalsciences in 2015, we’re so excited to have him help us tell the story of the smallest species of rattlesnake in the United States.
Found throughout the southeast United States, this species grows to about 2 feet long. Fun fact: their color and pattern vary depending on where they live! Pygmy rattlesnakes from Hyde, Beaufort, and Pamlico counties are more red or pink than their relatives!
