The Whooping Crane Festival is an annual event that takes place in Port Aransas, Texas. Each year since 1996, the festival celebrates the return of the endangered Whooping Cranes to their wintering habitat at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. This four-day event is packed with festivities and activities for all ages, allowing visitors to explore nature at its finest.
The festival kicks off with a welcome reception at the Port Aransas Art Center from 6-8 p.m., where guests can mingle and enjoy light refreshments. There are also bird watching opportunities, arts and crafts vendors, live music performances, and plenty of food trucks to keep everyone fueled up throughout the day.
On Saturday morning, visitors can join a 5K fun run/walk or take part in a kayak tour of Redfish Bay. Later in the day, there will be a parade featuring floats decorated with whooping crane artwork as well as other wildlife-themed decorations. Afterward, guests can participate in a variety of activities such as face painting and carnival games while listening to live music performances from local artists.
Sunday is dedicated to celebrating nature with guided tours of nearby bird sanctuaries and wildlife refuges as well as presentations by experts on various topics related to conservation efforts for endangered species like whooping cranes.
