The Denver Zoo is committed to the conservation of the Eastern Bongo, one of the most critically endangered species in the world. The Eastern Bongo, or mountain bongo, is native to sub-Saharan Africa and is characterized by its striking red-brown coat and white stripes.

At the Denver Zoo, we are dedicated to protecting this species from extinction by providing a safe habitat for them and engaging in conservation efforts. We have implemented several programs to ensure that our bongos remain healthy and thriving. Our animal care team provides daily enrichment activities for our animals, such as providing them with food puzzles and other stimulating activities. We also provide veterinary care for our bongos when needed, including regular health checks and treatments for any illnesses or injuries they may suffer from.

In addition to providing a safe home for our bongos, we are also actively involved in conservation efforts in their native habitats. Our field teams trek through Eastern Bongo habitat and remove snares, destroy poaching camps, and monitor illegal activities in these areas. We also work with local communities to educate them on the importance of conserving this species and its natural environment.

We are proud of all that we have accomplished so far in protecting this species at the Denver Zoo, but there is still much more work to be done. We need your help! You can support our efforts by donating to our conservation program or volunteering your time at the zoo. Together we can make a difference in saving this beautiful species from extinction!
