In November 1963, around 200 prominent community leaders, including the renowned actor Cary Grant, filed the original Articles of Incorporation that would establish GLAZA. This collective vision paved the way for creating a new Zoo in the Los Angeles region and emphasized the importance of building a strong membership base. Recognizing this, the GLAZA Board of Trustees swiftly implemented a membership program to provide crucial support for the establishment and development of the Los Angeles Zoo.
Throughout the past 60 years, our members have played a vital role in the success and well-being of the Zoo. By engaging as members, donors, trustees, colleagues, docents, and volunteers, each individual has made a significant difference in furthering the Zoo’s mission. Jane Goodall aptly stated that “every individual matters” and has a role to play, and we are immensely grateful for the part each of you plays in the life of the Zoo. Without your contributions, the Zoo’s achievements and impact would not have been possible.

It is during this time that numerous cultures traditionally celebrate with festivals of light. For the Los Angeles Zoo, the celebration of light takes the form of L.A. Zoo Lights: Animals Aglow—a spectacle that has become one of L.A.’s wildest holiday traditions. From November 17 to January 7, GLAZA will present this mesmerizing event, transforming the Zoo into a radiant display of color, fun, and light throughout the winter nights.
This year, L.A. Zoo Lights: Animals Aglow will feature the all-new Winter Wildlands, transporting visitors to snowy scenes complete with majestic mountains, towering trees, and animals that thrive in the winter environment.
