ZooBoo Tips & Tricks – Indianapolis Zoo

Are you ready to get into the spooky spirit of Halloween? Look no further than the annual ZooBoo event at the Indianapolis Zoo! From September 27th to October 31st, the Zoo will transform into a Halloween wonderland, complete with Halloween-themed activities, trick-or-treating, and the opportunity to see some amazing animals. In this blog post, we will explore all the unique and fascinating aspects of ZooBoo and provide tips and tricks to ensure you make the most of your visit!

1. Plan to Arrive Early
We recommend arriving at the Zoo early to fully immerse yourself in the festivities. ZooBoo kicks off at 2 p.m., but arriving early will give you ample time to find a parking spot, explore the Zoo, and experience all that ZooBoo has to offer. It’s always a good idea to check if any other events are happening in the Indianapolis area, as this may affect your commute to the Zoo.

2. Visit the Animals First
One of the best parts of visiting the Zoo is getting up close and personal with the animals. Fall brings cooler weather, so our animal friends are more active. If you want to make sure you have a chance to see your favorite animals before ZooBoo begins, we suggest arriving early. Don’t worry; all the animals will be exhibited until dusk throughout ZooBoo.

3. Dress Accordingly
Indiana weather in the fall can be quite unpredictable. One day, it might be sunny and in the 80s, while the next, it could be rainy and in the 50s. To ensure you’re prepared for weather conditions, check the forecast for the day you plan to visit ZooBoo. Additionally, costumes are encouraged for the whole family! Remember that full-face makeup or costume masks are only allowed for guests ages 12 and under.

4. Bring a Reusable Bag
ZooBoo offers a fantastic trick-or-treat trail experience, with eight different stations collecting candy and goodies. To reduce waste and help protect the environment, we encourage you to bring a reusable bag from home for your little ones to use during the trick-or-treat trail. It’s a small step towards sustainability that can make a big difference!

5. Bring Your Appetite
No visit to ZooBoo is complete without indulging in some wickedly delicious treats. Every year, the Indianapolis Zoo creates a variety of creepy eats specifically for ZooBoo. From monster-themed snacks to spooktacular desserts, there’s something for everyone to sink their teeth into. Stop by the food venues throughout the Zoo to satisfy your appetite and keep your energy up during your visit.

6. Check Out the Animal Chats
If you need a break from all the tricks and treats, you can take a moment to enjoy the various animal chats offered during ZooBoo. Not only is it a great opportunity to learn more about the incredible animals at the Zoo, but it’s also a chance to see how they get into the spirit of Halloween. For example, our Elephant herd participates in the Halloween fun with their famous Pumpkin Smash! Be sure to arrive at the Elephant yard approximately 15 minutes before the 4:30  p.m. event to secure a good spot.

7. Save the Trick-Or-Treat Trail for Last
The trick-or-treat trail is an absolute highlight of ZooBoo, located in the Plains exhibit towards the back of the Zoo. To make the most of your adventure, we recommend starting your ZooBoo journey at the front of the Zoo and ending your night at the Trick-or-Treat Trail. This will allow you to cover all the other activities and exhibits before immersing yourself in the candy-filled excitement!

For those 21 and over, don’t miss out on the adult trick-or-treat trail presented by Zink Distributing Company on Fridays and Saturdays from 5-8  p.m. It’s a chance to enjoy some adult-oriented treats and beverages while still embracing the Halloween spirit!

The ZooBoo event at the Indianapolis Zoo is the perfect opportunity to celebrate Halloween with your family. From exploring the Zoo and seeing incredible animals to indulging in delicious treats and collecting candy, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Remember to plan your visit, dress appropriately, and prepare for a good time.
