Overview

Located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Tennessee Aquarium is one of the country's most visited freshwater aquaria. Opened in 1992, it was the largest freshwater facility of its kind. The Tennessee Aquarium features both freshwater and marine animals. It is dedicated to connecting people with nature and empowering them to make informed decisions about water and wildlife.

Visitors to the Tennessee Aquarium are treated to a rich and diverse aquatic experience. The journey begins in the River Journey building, which showcases species from the Appalachian Cove Forest to the Gulf of Mexico. In the Ocean Journey building, guests encounter marine environments, from vibrant coral reefs to the open ocean. Unique attractions like the River Otter Falls and the Secret Reef draw audiences of all ages. Visitors gain a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of all aquatic environments through immersive exhibits and daily animal programs.

Conservation is at the heart of the Tennessee Aquarium's mission. The Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute (TNACI) is the research and conservation arm of the institution. TNACI focuses on conserving freshwater habitats and the species that reside within them, with special attention to the southeastern United States – a hotspot of aquatic biodiversity. The institute is actively involved in research, restoration efforts, and advocacy work, aiming to protect freshwater ecosystems and the myriad species they support.
