The Hoofstock team at the Houston Zoo welcomed two new calves this month – Marvin, the Eastern bongo, and Cadbury, the yellow-backed duiker. Marvin, a healthy male bongo, was born on April 8 to Lily and Bobby, and he recently had his first successful day on exhibit with his mom and another female bongo. Cadbury, a male duiker, was born on April 10 to Pumpkin and Darryl and can be found tucked away in the bamboo around the perimeter of his exhibit, sharing it with Okapi, Stanley Crane, and his mom.
Springtime Baby Boom – The Houston Zoo
The Houston Zoo is experiencing a boom in newborn animals as we enter the spring season. This exciting time of year sees many zoo residents give birth, creating a bustling and joyful atmosphere for visitors and staff alike. Here are some additions to the zoo family you don’t want to miss.
Giraffe Calf
The newest addition to the giraffe exhibit is a male calf born to mother Kamili on March 8. Standing 6 feet tall and weighing over 100 pounds, the calf has already captured the hearts of visitors with his playful personality and long neck.
Sea Lion Pup
In mid-March, the sea lion exhibit welcomed a new pup, born to a first-time mother, TJ. This female pup is bonding with her mother and taking swimming lessons in the pool. Visitors can watch as she learns to navigate the water with her small flippers.
Red Kangaroo Joey
A female red kangaroo joey was recently born, bringing the total number of kangaroos in the zoo to 11. Visitors can see Joey, who still spends much of her time in her mother’s pouch, but is starting to explore the world around her.
Flamingo Chicks
The flamingo exhibit has several new additions, with two chicks hatched in March and one more expected soon. Visitors can watch them grow from fluffy gray chicks to vibrant pink feathers.
Black-Headed Spider Monkey Baby
They were born in March to mother Moli, the new black-headed spider monkey baby can be seen clinging to her mother’s back as they move about the exhibit. With playful energy and curiosity, this new addition is sure to delight visitors.
