Overview

Audubon Zoo, situated in historic Uptown New Orleans, is a cornerstone of the Audubon Nature Institute. Covering 58 acres, the zoo opened its doors in 1914 and is now home to over 2,000 animals representing hundreds of species. The zoo's lush settings mimic the animals' natural habitats, from the bayous of Louisiana to the jungles of Asia.

Visitors can enjoy animal feedings, educational chats, and a range of interactive experiences like the petting zoo in the Children's Zoo area. The Cool Zoo, a wild and wet splash park, and the Gator Run, a lazy river, offer a refreshing break during hot summer days. Dining and shopping options are available across the zoo, making for a fun-filled day for the whole family.

Audubon Zoo strongly commits to conservation, participating in several global conservation programs and leading its initiatives. It works with other zoos worldwide on Species Survival Plans to breed endangered species. Additionally, it contributes to local wildlife preservation through the Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program.
