The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium has counted Grow Wild Society donors Maria and Sean O’Brien among its friends for 17 years.
“One of the first things we did when we moved from Washington, D.C. back to Pittsburgh was sign up for a Zoo Membership,” says Maria. “We have a family tradition of getting a picture of our kids on the jaguar statues near the leopard enclosure every time that we visit. It has given us a great photo album of them growing with each visit! We also stop and say hi to Harbor the green sea turtle anytime we are in the Aquarium.”
As the O’Brien children have grown, they have enjoyed the Zoo’s educational opportunities and the love of the natural world they inspire. Maria says, “After experiencing firsthand what a wonderful experience Zoo Camp has been for our kids over the past two years, we were extremely excited to learn about the Zoo Campership program that provides scholarships to individuals who might not otherwise be able to attend this wonderful program.”
The O’Briens stress the importance of supporting the Zoo to ensure that future generations of Pittsburghers get to visit and learn about the world around them while supporting conservation. Maria says, “If you are able to give, it is incredibly rewarding to be a small part of the work the Zoo does in our community, especially all of its youth education programs.”
