May Birthdays at the Zoo!

The Virginia Zoo has many animal birthdays to celebrate in May, with 10 animals representing Taurus and Gemini. Lily, the American Bison, turns 25 and enjoys grazing and rolling in dust and mud to cool off on hot days. Cahaya, the Malayan Tiger, is three years old and loves to play with her enrichment items and soak up the sun while being a strong swimmer. Lima the Cheetah turns six and is known for her unique spotted fur pattern and remarkable speed. The other animals celebrating birthdays include Jackson the Aldabra Tortoise, Sally the Sarus Crane, Patty the Northern Tree Shrew, Vincent the Egyptian Goose, Zelda the Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra, Pepper the Orangutan, and Gertrude the Stanley Blue Crane. Visitors are encouraged to learn about these animals and wish them a happy birthday during their next trip to the zoo.

May Birthdays at the Zoo!

Whether it be swinging from tree branches or prowling through grassy plains, these creatures have captured our hearts for years. As May rolls around again, we’re equally as passionate about recognizing their birthdays as ever. Among those getting older include monkeys and tigers–two fan favorites that never cease to amaze.

Monkeys

Behold one of our most highly coveted exhibits at this grandiose zoo – the iconic monkey enclave – alive with movement and action. This month brings heightened excitement as two immensely adored primates commemorate special milestones. The veritable Coco – renowned worldwide as a white-faced capuchin – celebrates her passage into a vibrant sixth year. At the same time, Max, an unassuming yet beloved howler monkey, reaches a remarkable thirty years on this planet. Come on over to join us in sharing your birthday wishes for these fantastic creatures.

Lion

Our majestic lion, Simba, is turning five this month. If you want to wish Simba a happy birthday, head to the lion exhibit and give him your best roar. Simba is the zoo’s king, and he’s always excited to bask in the adoration of his loyal subjects.

Giraffe

The towering giraffe, Gigi, is turning eight this month. As one of the tallest animals at the zoo, Gigi is used to standing out from the crowd. But on her birthday, she’s the center of attention. Please stop by the giraffe exhibit to give her a birthday carrot and watch her stretch her long neck to reach it.

Tigers

Our tigers are some of the most popular animals at the zoo, and this month, we’re celebrating the birthdays of two. On May 12th, Samson will turn six, while his sister Delilah will turn five on May 22nd. These playful tigers are always up for a game of chase, so stop by the tiger exhibit and see if you can keep up with them.

Conclusion

The zoo is a place of wonder and excitement every day of the year, but May birthdays add a unique element of joy to the mix. So come on down to the zoo this month and help us celebrate the birthdays of some of our favorite animals. They’ll be glad to see you!
