Overview

The Buffalo Zoo, located in Buffalo, New York, is the third oldest zoo in the United States, having opened its doors for the first time in 1875. Spread over 23.5 acres; the zoo houses a diverse collection of wild and exotic animals and over 320 different species of plants. The zoo's mission is to provide the public with an educational, recreational, and conservation-oriented environment where understanding and appreciation of the natural world can be promoted and sustained.

Visitors to the Buffalo Zoo can explore a variety of exhibits that reflect the natural habitats of the animals. Highlights include the Rainforest Falls, a South American tropical rainforest habitat, and the Arctic Edge, home to polar bears and wolves. The zoo offers interactive experiences like giraffe feeding, carousel rides, and a children's zoo. With a lineup of seasonal events, educational programs, and camps, there's always something happening at the Buffalo Zoo.

The Buffalo Zoo plays a significant role in wildlife conservation through involvement in Species Survival Plans for many of its animals, contributing to efforts to breed and preserve endangered species. It also participates in a range of local and global conservation initiatives, supports field research projects, and educates visitors about the importance of biodiversity and the steps they can take to contribute to conservation efforts.
