Description

The 4-acre (1.6 ha) Teton Trek exhibit, which opened in October 2009, brings signature elements of Yellowstone National Park to the Memphis Zoo. The name "Teton" refers to the Teton Range in Wyoming, highlighting the exhibit's dedication to replicating this iconic landscape. Visitors are welcomed by a 25-foot (7.6 m) replica of the Old Faithful Geyser and a 5,000-square-foot (460 m2) replica of the Old Faithful Inn, known as the Great Lodge. Inside the lodge, interpretive information is shared through engaging and interactive displays that enrich the educational experience.

The exhibit is home to several keystone species representative of the Yellowstone ecosystem, including Grizzly Bears, American Black Bears, Elk, Gray Wolves, and Trumpeter swans. Other species, such as the North American Porcupine and Sandhill Cranes, further diversify the habitat displays. Guests can follow a scenic trail that offers an underwater view into the bears' fishing pond, providing unique perspectives on their behavior. The experience is enhanced by a prominent overlook atop a 25-foot (7.6 m) replica of Yellowstone's Firehole Falls, giving visitors panoramic views of the entire exhibit.
